Video of giant comet approaching Earth appears - scientists amazed by its size

The tail of the celestial guest is at least 6 million kilometers long.

IKI and the Institute of Solar Astronomy ISTP have shown a video of a giant comet flying towards Earth. The core of the celestial guest is now beyond the telescope's field of view, but its massive tail continues to pass by the Sun and will pass across the solar disk within two days.

- The size of the tail is enormous. Scientists say that the part visible in the image is at least 6 million kilometers long.

KTV-LUCH previously reported that a giant comet, which was last seen by Neanderthals, was flying towards Earth. We are talking about the celestial object C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS. Even with the naked eye, it will be visible to residents of the Northern Hemisphere in the western part of the horizon.

- The nucleus of a comet moving away from the Sun will soon appear in the evening sky of the Northern Hemisphere. Today, the object will move further from the star and will become visible in a darker sky, the laboratory reported.

At its closest approach, the comet will be about 70 million kilometers from Earth and will have a bright, long, fluttering tail. The comet will be visible for almost three weeks. It is worth noting that this is not the first time C/2023 A3 has flown near Earth. The last time Neanderthals were seen was about 80,000 years ago.
