Do not take internally: Drivers warned about dangerous antifreeze
In the Samara region, car owners were advised to carefully consider the choice of antifreeze for their cars.
- The methanol content in windshield washer fluid should not exceed 0.05%. Illegal manufacturers use methyl alcohol in windshield wipers. According to the press service of Rospotrebnadzor for the Samara Region, such products are often sold on unauthorized trading platforms.
To protect their health, the department strongly recommends that drivers purchase antifreeze only in legal stores and pay attention to the components included in their composition. Washer fluid may consist of isopropyl or ethyl alcohol or their mixtures, and may also consist of additives according to crystallization temperature and consumer properties.
Most of them are made by adding detergents, i.e. surfactants, fragrances and dyes, to a solution of alcohol and water. Modern washer fluids use isopropyl alcohol, propylene glycol and ethylene glycol.
It is also important to check labels for instructions and the words "Do not take internally."
