Beterbiev defeated Bivol in the fight and became the absolute world boxing champion.
Russian-Canadian boxer Artur Beterbiev defeated Russian Dmitry Bivol and became world champion in the light heavyweight division. The fights began in Riyadh. The opponents fought for 12 rounds, after which the referee awarded the victory to Beterbiev - 114:114, 115:113, 116:112, TASS reports.
Bivol's promoter disagreed with the judge's decision and said it was "some kind of a joke." According to him, Bivol won the fight. The boxer himself said that he did not understand the judges' decision, but accepted the situation.
In turn, the winner praised his opponent, making the fight more difficult. "Bivol is a world champion. This man can be better than me. But I was lucky. Allah was with me today," Beterbiev said.
For 39-year-old Beterbiev, this is his 21st victory in the professional ring. He remains an undefeated boxer. 33-year-old Bivol suffered his first defeat. He has 22 wins to his credit.
