Германия увеличит военную помощь Молдавии в рамках нового договора
Moldova plans to take part in the German government's program to provide assistance for foreign military equipment.
The decision to begin negotiations and sign the corresponding agreement was made at a meeting of the republic’s government.
In early 2024, Germany handed over 19 Piranha armored vehicles to the Moldovan army and plans to hand over another 14 such vehicles. The US and NATO, as well as other European countries, support the re-equipment of the republic's armed forces. This raises concerns among the unauthorized Transnistrian authorities and the Russian authorities conducting peacekeeping operations on the banks of the Dniester.
Today, the army of neutral Moldova is one of the smallest in the CIS. To reduce costs, the number of personnel was reduced to about 6,500 people, and the term of military service was reduced to 12 months. It is armed with 15 transport aircraft and helicopters, about 200 armored vehicles, more than 100 guns and mortars. Most of this equipment is of Soviet design from the 1960s-1980s.
