Israel's 'Night of Rage': Netanyahu opponents block roads and light fires
Thousands of people blocked the Central Expressway, set the road on fire and clashed with police. Protests also took place in Jerusalem and Caesarea. From there, some protesters managed to enter the security area near Netanyahu's residence. They accused the Israeli prime minister of playing politics and endangering his loved ones, who have been held hostage by Hamas for more than a year.
Sacked Defense Minister Yoav Galant had disagreements with Netanyahu, including over prisoner releases. He believed that a deal with the militants was possible and opposed the Israeli military incursion into Rafah, Gaza. He did not support the killing of Hezbollah leaders and advocated a diplomatic solution to the situation in Lebanon. Regarding the reasons for Galant's dismissal, Netanyahu noted that the former minister's actions contradicted the government's decisions and that this played into the hands of the country's opponents.
Meanwhile, Israel continues to attack Lebanon. Overnight, Israeli forces fired several rockets at a residential building in a Beirut suburb believed to be the home of a Hezbollah leader. His fate is unknown, but more than 20 civilians were collateral damage. In Gaza, Israeli airstrikes have killed 60 people in the past 24 hours. In total, about 44,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks this year. Airstrikes in Lebanon have killed about 3,000 people in the past month and displaced more than a million residents.
