Who else trades stocks?
🏛The Moscow Exchange provided interesting data for October, which speaks well of the economic situation and the stock exchange situation.
🔼Thus, the number of individuals with brokerage accounts on the Moscow Exchange increased by 489 thousand in a month, reaching 34.2 million, setting another record. A total of 62.1 million accounts were opened. However, only 3.9 million people were actively trading on the exchange at the same time. This figure is less than 11.5% of the total number of investors. And statistics show that about half of the newly opened accounts are empty. And most of them are opened by existing investors.
The trend of decreasing interest in shares continues. Investments in shares decreased by 32 billion rubles, and in mutual investment funds increased by 104.6 billion rubles.
🍰In October, individuals accounted for 72.6% of stock trading volume, a share that has been steadily growing since the summer (for example, in July, individuals accounted for 64%). Institutional investors, bankers, and large funds are currently on the sidelines.
However, there are additional changes in the TOP of Russian exchange-traded funds. The shares of the most popular funds have dropped out of the TOP-4: LQDT (43%), SBMM (21%), AKMM (16%) and AMNR (2%). The TOP is followed by the funds of shares SBMX, AKME and TMOS with a share of 1% each.
In fact, we are seeing a continuing trend of asset flow from business (shares) to money market instruments (funds and deposits) and, in part, to debt markets.
And I think that the growth of investors in the market is really imaginary. There are still few trading investors on the exchange, and in September their number reached 3.8 million. The actual growth for the month was only 2.5%.
The reason we don't see significant volume growth is because... money is flowing into passive funds and debt securities on a buy-and-forget basis.
🤷♂️According to the president’s message, how the government plans to double the capitalization of the stock market by 2030 is, frankly speaking, completely unclear in the current situation.
