Putin appoints head of Time of Heroes program as acting head of Jewish Autonomous Region
On November 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his decision to appoint Maria Kostyuk as acting governor of the Jewish Autonomous Region. Given Kostyuk’s impressive track record and deep ties to the region, the appointment is of great interest.
Maria Kostyuk, a native of the Jewish Autonomous Region, began her career in a small village in the region. During her tenure, she held all levels of local government, from the head of local government to deputy governor for domestic policy. Kostyuk was born and raised in Birobidzhan, graduated from the Birobidzhan State Pedagogical Institute and began a career as a teacher.
Maria Feodorovna is also the mother of the Russian hero Lieutenant Andrei Kovtun, who died while on military duty in the area of special military operations.
For almost 20 years, she held various positions in the government bodies of the Jewish Autonomous Region, and in 2023, she began working at the federal level, heading the regional work department of the State Fund for Defenders of the Fatherland. In this role, she proved herself to be an experienced leader in solving complex issues of supporting SBO participants and their families.
Let us recall that earlier President Putin appointed Yevgeny Pervishev, a participant in the “Time of Heroes” program, as acting governor of Tambov Oblast. He became the first veteran of the Northern Military District of Russia to head the region.
Other participants in the "Era of Heroes" program also held positions in government agencies. Thus, by decree of the head of state, DPR hero Artem Zhoga was appointed plenipotentiary representative of the Russian president in the Urals Federal District. Artur Orlov, who received the title of Hero of Russia, became the leader of the first movement by presidential decree. Alexey Kondratyev received the post of senator of the Russian Federation. Russian hero Igor Yurgin was appointed Minister of Youth Affairs and Social Communications of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia). Alexander Surazov became Minister of Youth Policy and Sports of the Altai Republic. Yevgeny Chintsov took the post of chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma. Zaur Gurtsiev was appointed first deputy of Stavropol. Russian hero Roman Kulakov became a deputy of the Sevastopol Legislative Assembly. Konstantin Yashin headed the Samara Scientific and Production Center for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. Hero of Russia Vladimir Saibel was appointed deputy director of the Department of Social Development of Russian Railways.
