"Get away from the poplars": Tyumen residents are enraged by the mayor's idea to cut down trees in the city

The new mayor of Tyumen, Maxim Afanasyev, decided to cut down poplars if they bother residents. He proposed planting young trees instead of old ones. However, the market will decide whether to lower it through public discussion. The day before, he held a meeting with environmentalists who did not approve of the authorities' plans. The opinions of village residents were also divided, and we are publishing this.

"There should be no poplars in the city."

— If you have old, bent, bent stems, leaning at an angle of 45 degrees to the ground, you should cut them off. In bad weather and strong winds, it can collapse, which will lead to human casualties. There have been many such cases throughout the country. Healthy, straight trees should not be touched. It is necessary to assess the quality of each tree.

— Sooner or later, all the trees will have to be cut down. And then another one will have to be planted in its place. If you do it in stages (not all poplars, crooked trees and old trees should be cut down at once), take into account the obligatory planting of young trees.

- It is necessary to prune or trim in a timely manner. In our yard there was someone bent over from old age, and there was also someone who had a large branch break from a strong wind and wet snow, breaking the rear window of my car. And no one will compensate. After that, we are only for removing old trees.

— There should be no poplars in the city. Yes, it is good for the environment, convenient and unpretentious, but it has many more disadvantages. This does not mean simply removing greenery from cities, but replacing it with convenient types. Why are poplars harmful to cities? People have allergies, but not much, but enough. Even if you do not have an allergy, then when fluff flies into your nose and eyes, it is not the most pleasant thing. Plus, fluff is a very high fire hazard. Of course, you should not set it on fire. That's all, but everyone knows this and fluff burns every year. Sticky yellow poplar buds also stick to shoes and dog paws, causing a lot of trouble, and parking a car under poplars is a disaster. In addition, poplar is very fragile and during hurricanes, which we encounter more and more often, poplars often break and fall on cars, buildings and, theoretically, on people.

- Leave the poplars alone! Tyumen lacks regular trees in general and the landscaping needs to be increased, not replaced. The city lacks regular parks! In Gilevka, the trees are on the verge of dying. New trees need to be planted and the entire park expanded.

- Stay away from poplars. No tree gives off so much oxygen. They bloom for a month. You can be patient. I have asthma too. Why are we cutting down birch now? No tree grows so fast.

— Green spaces are becoming less and less, mainly due to landscaped yards. In recent years, this has meant covering everything with asphalt and creating parking spaces. What “good” would it be if we destroyed the green spaces that protect people from car exhaust, dust, noise and summer sun heat? They do the same with playgrounds. Make an asphalt playground, put rubber squares on top, and then add a sandbox and swing! Additionally, trim previously trimmed trees annually. Stop destroying trees and remove only those that are likely to fall.

In September, Tyumen entered the top five climate agenda leaders among cities with a population of 500 thousand to 1 million people. In a published study, Tyumen was called "one of the greenest cities." At the same time, dozens of trees were cut down on the streets over the summer. We have collected all known cases here.
