Vladimir Uyba's resignation led to reshuffles: who headed the Komi Republic and the Jewish Autonomous Region
Former governor of the Jewish Autonomous Region (JAR) Rostislav Goldstein has been appointed acting head of the Komi Republic. Previously, this position was held by Vladimir Uyba. According to Kommersant, Maria Kostyuk, head of the regional department of the Fatherland Defender Fund, has become acting head of the Jewish Autonomous Region instead of Goldstein. What is known about the new governor — from URA.RU materials.
Vladimir Uyba resigned as governor of the Komi Republic on November 5. He said Russian President Vladimir Putin had given him a new job at the federal level. Uyba said it was a big responsibility for him and he was grateful to the president for his trust.
Political scientist Dmitry Orlov believes that Uyva's resignation could be related to his rude and inadequate behavior. Firstly, he was not an effective manager and was unable to form a working team. In addition, in the influence rating of the heads of the organizations included in it, based on the results of October 2024, Vladimir Uyba took the last place.
Uyba has headed the region since April 2020. He took up his new position shortly after the resignation of Sergei Gaplikov. The case coincided with a high-profile scandal related to the arrest of former governor Vyacheslav Gaizer, who was sentenced to 11 years in a maximum-security penal colony and a fine of 160 million rubles. He was charged with organizing a criminal group.
The acting head of the Komi Republic was taken over by former governor of the Jewish Autonomous Region Rostislav Goldshtein. He will replace Uyba, who held the position for four years.
Goldstein, 55, is said to have worked as a fitter and assembler after studying in Sakhalin. After moving to Komi, he opened his own business and became the CEO of the Goldstein trading company. In 2019, Goldstein became acting governor of the Jewish Autonomous Region. He was elected to his first term in September 2020.
Maria Kostyuk has become the new head of the Jewish Autonomous Region, Kommersant reports. She was born on March 2, 1977 in Smidovich, Jewish Autonomous Region. She graduated from the Birobidzhan Pedagogical Institute (2000) and the Khabarovsk Economics and Law Academy (2013). She worked as a history teacher and deputy director at a school, and then in the public relations department of the Smidovich District State Administration. Since 2009, the woman has worked in the Birobidzhan mayor's office, where she was deputy director for social issues.
Since March 2017, Kostyuk worked at Russian Railways, then as an assistant to a member of the Federation Council. In 2020–2021, she became the first deputy director of the Jewish Autonomous Governor's Organization, and then deputy chairman of the government of the Jewish Autonomous Region. In 2023, she headed the department for interaction with the regions of the federal fund "Defenders of the Fatherland" and was included in the list of close associates of Russian President Vladimir Putin. She is also a member of the United Russia party and deputy minister for youth policy of the Jewish Autonomous Region. Little is known about Kostyuk's personal life. She is married and has a daughter. However, the couple's son Andrei was killed in the Northern Military District in August 2022.
