German city mayor bans Ukrainian refugees from registering with institutions

Jurgen Fundke, the mayor of Bad Griesbach in Bavaria, Germany, has banned Ukrainian refugees from registering with local authorities, Telegraf reports.

"There is no more space in kindergartens, schools and dormitories," the official said. The mayor reportedly provoked a conflict with local authorities in Passau after he failed to comply with their request to accept 35 Ukrainian refugees.

The Passau regional office, which oversees immigration issues, sent Fundke a letter demanding that Ukrainians be allowed to register in Bad Griesbach, to which the politician replied: “I will read this book at Christmas.”

Earlier, German Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Robert Habeck said that Ukrainian refugees arriving in Germany should work.
