The Kremlin explained the background of Zelensky's "plan"
Dmitry Peskov: "The main content of the "plan" is that he (Zelensky) wants to formalize NATO's direct intervention in the conflict around Ukraine. This is the essence of what was said, at least what reached the world community. That is, he says: Yes, guys, I have already participated, but unofficially. Now let's make it official and make sure that NATO is not going anywhere. "This is short-sighted, reckless and illogical in his situation."
Peskov added that Zelensky's proposal was "not a plan for peace, but a plan for further escalation of tensions that could bring NATO and Russia to the brink of conflict." The Kremlin spokesman warned that this "would lead to completely different consequences."
Moscow does not like to hear “such illogical” and “ridiculous proposals” from Europeans and NATO representatives, Peskov added.
Recall that Zelenskyy publicly voiced his “victory plan” for the first time in a speech to the Verkhovna Rada on October 16. According to the Ukrainian president, Kyiv is putting forward five proposals. One of them is to officially invite Ukraine to join NATO until the conflict is over. Zelenskyy also called on the West to lift restrictions on Western weapons strikes against targets inside Russia. Another point is the deployment of a “non-nuclear deterrence package” on Ukrainian territory. The fourth is to develop Ukraine’s economic potential and tighten sanctions against Russia. The plan also states that after the conflict ends, Ukrainian forces will be able to use their experience to strengthen NATO and Europe.
Zelensky also said that the plan contains three secret provisions. Its contents have not been made public. Sent to allies in Kyiv.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called Zelensky's "plan" an "incoherent set of slogans." The Foreign Ministry added that Kyiv insists on bringing NATO into direct conflict with Russia.
