A blood moon will rise in the sky: the night light will approach the Earth at a minimum distance
A supermoon will be visible this week.
People on Earth are waiting for a rare celestial phenomenon: a supermoon. On Thursday, October 17, our planet's satellite will approach Earth at its closest distance. On this day, the lunar disk will be almost 8% larger and 15% brighter than on a normal full moon.
This full moon is called the Hunter's or Blood Moon. Our ancestors associated the bright night star with the end of field work and the beginning of the hunting season. And the name "Bloody" is associated with a pinkish hue. This happens because the sun's rays, having passed through the Earth's atmosphere, reach the surface of the satellite and the so-called "Rayleigh scattering" occurs.
