The culprit of a car accident that killed a child was given a suspended sentence - the prosecutor's office objects

The prosecutor's office has appealed the lenient sentence given to the driver who hit a 3-year-old girl on the Vladivostok-Khabarovsk highway in the Nadezhdinsky district of Primorsky Krai, DEITA.RU reports.

The accident occurred in November 2018 on the 715 km section of the federal highway "Ussuri" (Sirenevsky district). The driver was driving a Hino Ranger tractor trailer with a laminated chipboard on the platform, which was not properly secured. While driving, one of the license plates fell from the platform and broke the windshield of a Mercedes driving in the oncoming lane. The stove caused life-threatening injuries to a three-year-old child, who was a passenger in the Mercedes. During the trial, the negligent truck driver did not admit guilt.

The Nadezhdinsky District Court found the driver guilty of causing death by violating traffic rules and driving a vehicle (paragraph 3 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced him to two and one term of imprisonment. He was sentenced to six years of imprisonment with a suspended probationary period of three years. During this period, his driver's license will be revoked.

The prosecution instructed the court to impose a real prison term. Although the court did not take this position into account, the prosecutor's office plans to toughen the punishment for the driver who hit the child.

A criminal trial on a similar accident recently began in the Anuchinsky District of Primorsky Krai. Only the tractor driver was carrying reinforced concrete slabs, not chipboard. On February 22, 2024, the loose construction material fell from a platform onto an oncoming car. Drivers passing by did not have time to react to the sudden obstacle. Three cars collided with the slab, resulting in two deaths and one serious injury.
