Russian arrested in France on suspicion of preparing riots

A criminal case has been opened against Russian citizen Kirill Gryaznov, who was detained in France in July on the basis of provisions on cooperation with foreign countries in organizing riots, RIA Novosti reports, citing the Paris prosecutor's office.

Under French law, Russian citizens face up to 30 years in prison. According to police, a search was conducted in the man's apartment, during which "some evidence" was found.

Prosecutors said: "There was an intention to cause an incident that could cause disorder during the Olympic Games."

A Swedish court has previously acquitted a 60-year-old man who was detained on charges of illegal intelligence work for Russia. Later, law enforcement officials also decided to release a Russian woman detained on charges of industrial espionage.
