Former judge placed under house arrest in Moscow in Maykop road accident case involving dead child

The court records in this case show that Gorgolin has served for a long time as a judge and deputy chairman of the Maikop City Court, and given his extensive connections to law enforcement agencies, the preliminary investigation suggests that he may be in hiding. You cannot take any action on the part of the preliminary investigation body or the court that would hinder the progress of this criminal case, such as destroying or falsifying evidence, or pressuring witnesses.

The case materials state: “To select a measure of restraint for the defendant Anatoly Timofeevich Gorgolin in the form of house arrest at the place of registration.”

The former judge's house arrest expires next week, on October 24. Gorgolin has already personally appealed the chosen precautionary measures, but the date for the second court to hear his appeal has not yet been set, TASS writes.

In court, Gorgolin's lawyer stated that he does not intend to hide from the investigation and is completely positive. The lawyers also asked the court to take into account his advanced age, health condition and to choose preventive measures in the form of a ban on certain actions.

Let me remind you that on the afternoon of July 22 in Maykop on Sportivnaya Street between Kubanskaya and Gagarina, a 72-year-old retired city court judge crashed into a passing Ford in a Mercedes crossover. After that, the SUV, moving at high speed, crashed into the fence of a pedestrian area of the city park near a restaurant, hitting a 9-year-old boy. The child died from his injuries.

Two adults and four children, including the driver, were injured in the Mercedes. Two girls, aged 7 and 12, and two boys, aged 8 and 10, were injured.

The grieving family of a child killed in an accident last September have expressed concern that the child could escape criminal charges.
