Bodies of climbers from Leningrad region evacuated from Mount Dhaulagiri in Nepal
The high-altitude transport operation to transport the bodies of five Russian climbers who died on Mount Dhaulagiri in Nepal has been successfully completed. The Leningrad Region Mountaineering Federation reported that work is currently underway to deliver the bodies to Kathmandu.
A group of climbers including Alexander Dusheiko, Oleg Kruglov, Vladimir Chistikov, Mikhail Nosenko and Dmitry Shpilevoy disappeared while climbing Dhaulagiri on October 6. Rescuers found the body on October 8. A fundraiser was organized for the evacuation, but due to bad weather conditions, the rescue operation was postponed until the weather improved.
Dhaulagiri, the seventh highest mountain in the world (8167 m), is considered one of the most difficult eight-thousanders to climb in Nepal.
