England team finds its German

The search for an England manager has ended after Gareth Southgate resigned following the European Championships in Germany. The post will soon be taken over by German Thomas Tuchel, the third foreign coach in the team's history.

Several sources, including the Times and the Telegraph, have reported that Thomas Tuchel will take over as England manager under a deal with the English Football Association, a promise they say will be fulfilled in the coming days.

It is the result of a nearly three-month search for a new coach for the national team. Gareth Southgate, who had been in charge since 2016, resigned after the summer European Championship in Germany after England showed great consistency but failed to win a major title. There, England reached the final again, as they did at the previous continental tournament in 2021, but lost 2-1 to Spain in the decider.

After Southgate left, Lee Carsley, who had been in charge of England’s youth team, became caretaker manager. The team played four games in the Nations League, winning one against Ireland and two against Finland, but unexpectedly losing at home to lowly Greece. Various sources, including some well-known experts, provided lists of potential candidates for the permanent coaching positions. The choice eventually fell on a coach who had only worked at a club before. In fact, in the last decade, these have been such famous clubs as Borussia Dortmund, PSG, Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

With them, Thomas Tuchel won several valuable trophies, the most valuable of which was the English Chelsea.

He joined the London team at the beginning of 2021, when it was going through a serious crisis. But the difficult season ended with a victory. Chelsea won the Champions League. However, The Guardian recalled that Tuchel left the entire football world amid discussions about Tuchel's career, such as losing contact with the players and conflict with the management.

Thomas Tuchel becomes the third foreign manager in England's history, following the Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson in the 2000s and the Italian Fabio Capello in the last decade.
